The Story Behind Heritage House

Zoe Bawtree, founder of Heritage House, has spent a lifetime immersed in the world of antiques, design, and the stories that objects carry through generations. Her passion began as a child, accompanying her parents to antique fairs from the age of ten, where she developed an instinctive fascination with craftsmanship, history, and the thrill of discovering hidden treasures.

A Lifelong Passion for Antiques

By the age of fifteen, Zoe had already reached an early milestone when her first piece, a Rockingham porcelain cat, was accepted for auction at Sotheby’s. The experience ignited what would become a lifelong fascination with antiques. Even as a teenager, she could often be found reading the weighty Miller’s antiques guides late into the night, absorbing knowledge of ceramics, glassware, jewellery, furniture, and the decorative arts.

Her formal education further deepened this passion. After college, Zoe studied History of Design at university, specialising in architecture and fashion- disciplines that continue to influence her eye for proportion, craftsmanship, interiors, and timeless style today.

From Design to a Life in Antiques

In her early thirties, Zoe became involved in the creation of a highly innovative underground home, which later featured on Grand Designs. An ambitious and unconventional project, it reflected her appreciation for both historic beauty and forward-thinking design.

Yet throughout every stage of her life, including a successful corporate career in London, antiques remained a constant thread.

Determined to build a business around her passion, one that could also take her internationally, Zoe entered the world of vintage jewellery, becoming known as ‘The Vintage Angel’. She specialised in affordable costume and vintage jewellery spanning the Georgian period through to the 1980s, supplying collections to boutiques and clients drawn to pieces with character, history, and individuality.

The Birth of Heritage House

More recently, Zoe founded Heritage House after moving from her modern architectural home into a Georgian manor house in the Cotswolds. Inspired by the elegance and entertaining traditions of the Georgian period, Heritage House was created around the art of dressing the table and bringing a sense of history into modern homes.

The collection brings together antique and vintage silver-plated champagne buckets, butler’s trays, crystal glassware, decanters, champagne coupes, celery vases, and bespoke, handmade-in-Britain linens, including tablecloths and napkins. Each piece has been chosen for its beauty, craftsmanship, and ability to create a sense of occasion.

Antiques, Entertaining & Timeless Style

For Zoe, antiques are about more than simply owning beautiful objects. They are about the atmosphere they create, the stories they tell, and the way they can become part of modern life.

Heritage House brings together this love of antiques with a passion for elegant entertaining, creating collections designed to transform a table, a gathering, or an everyday moment into something memorable.

Bespoke Antiques Experiences in the Cotswolds

Today, Zoe is developing exclusive bespoke experiences for guests at home and abroad, especially the United States. Hosted within her Georgian manor house, these intimate gatherings combine her expertise in antiques with storytelling, elegant table settings, and beautiful lunches served within the house or gardens.

Inspired by the spirit of Antiques Roadshow, the experiences offer guests a rare insight into the world of antiques, collecting, styling, and sourcing. Guests may also be invited to explore some of Zoe’s own favourite treasure-hunting locations across the Cotswolds, discovering the people, places, and stories behind the objects that continue to inspire her.

The Heritage House Philosophy

From a childhood spent exploring antique fairs to creating a life and business centred around beautiful objects, Zoe’s journey has always been about the same thing: discovering the stories, craftsmanship, and character that make an object worth keeping, and sharing that joy with others.

Heritage House is a natural extension of that lifelong passion: a celebration of antiques, considered interiors, elegant entertaining, and the enduring beauty of objects with a story to tell.
