Antique 19th Century French White Opaline Glass Casket Box with Brass Mounts

A beautiful antique French opaline glass casket box, dating to the 19th century, circa 1800s.

This elegant rectangular box is crafted from opaque white opaline glass, with a wonderfully smooth, luminous finish. The simplicity of the white glass is beautifully complemented by its original-style brass mounts, which run around the lid and feature a decorative brass escutcheon to the front.

Opaline glass became particularly fashionable in France during the 19th century, admired for its delicate, porcelain-like appearance and luxurious finish. These charming glass boxes were often used on dressing tables to hold jewellery, keepsakes, letters and other treasured possessions.

The clean lines and understated elegance of this example make it a particularly versatile decorative piece, equally at home in a traditional English country house or a more contemporary interior.

A lovely example of 19th-century French decorative glass, combining practical storage with timeless antique charm.
