Condition

History
Beaded jewellery has a remarkably long history, but during the twentieth century designers increasingly explored ways of using tiny beads almost as a textile, building multiple strands into substantial sculptural forms rather than conventional single-strand necklaces.
This necklace is a wonderful example of that approach. Hundreds of tiny white beads have been worked into repeated loops and intertwined strands, creating a broad collar with an almost woven appearance.
The contrast between the densely worked white beadwork and elaborate gold-tone fittings gives the necklace a particularly glamorous quality, while its generous proportions place it firmly within the tradition of statement costume jewellery.
