A beautiful Victorian jewellery box, dating to the late 19th century, exquisitely decorated with individually cut pieces of shimmering shell arranged in a striking geometric mosaic.
The rectangular box is covered across the lid and sides with wonderfully iridescent, displaying natural tones of soft cream, blush pink and green as the light catches its surface. Fine bands of darker, richly coloured shell provide an elegant contrast and frame the geometric design of the lid.
Raised on small metal ball feet, the box retains its charming original-style shell knob to the front. Opening the hinged lid reveals a green fabric-lined interior, showing the gentle wear and patina expected from an antique piece that has been used and treasured for well over a century.
Originally intended for storing jewellery and other precious personal possessions, today it would make a wonderful decorative box for a dressing table lovely place for keeping favourite pieces of jewellery.
