Vintage 1960s DeLizza & Elster ‘Juliana’ Statement Bib Necklace – Blue & Emerald Green Rhinestones
An exceptional and wonderfully dramatic vintage statement necklace, attributed to DeLizza & Elster, the celebrated American costume jewellery house whose highly collectible pieces are today commonly known as Juliana. This is a book piece bib colllar necklace
Dating to circa the 1960s, this magnificent collar-style bib necklace is lavishly set with an extraordinary combination of jewel-toned glass stones. Large faceted sapphire-blue pear-shaped stones form the principal design, interspersed with vivid emerald-green round and teardrop stones, elongated olive-green navettes and smaller deep-blue rhinestones.
Delicate trails of sparkling Aurora Borealis rhinestones weave between the larger stones, catching the light beautifully and giving the necklace wonderful movement and brilliance. The entire arrangement is set into warm gold-tone metal, creating a particularly rich combination of sapphire blue, emerald green and gold.
The reverse reveals the intricate construction of the necklace, with individually set stones and articulated sections allowing this substantial piece to sit elegantly around the neckline.
DeLizza & Elster was founded in New York in 1947 and became renowned for its exceptionally bold and colourful rhinestone jewellery. The company produced jewellery for a number of important fashion and costume-jewellery names, while its own short-lived Juliana line has become particularly sought after by collectors. Most pieces were not permanently signed, instead originally carrying paper tags, so surviving examples are identified through their distinctive construction, stone settings and design characteristics.
