History
Baroque pearls are prized for their irregular, organic forms, in contrast to the perfectly spherical pearls traditionally associated with classic pearl jewellery. Each develops with its own individual shape and surface, meaning no two pearls are precisely alike.
Large baroque pearls became particularly fashionable in twentieth-century and contemporary jewellery, where their sculptural appearance allowed designers to move away from the traditional uniform string of pearls.
The wonderful irregularity of the pearls in this necklace, together with their soft silver-grey colouring and changing iridescent tones, gives the piece a relaxed yet luxurious quality. It is a necklace that can work equally well with evening dress or worn more informally.
