Late Victorian / Edwardian Cut Glass Pickle Jar with Silver-Plated Stand & Serving Fork – c.1890–1910
A wonderfully elegant late Victorian to Edwardian cut glass pickle jar, beautifully presented in its decorative silver-plated holder, complete with serving fork and charming little side cup.
Dating to approximately 1890–1910, this delightful piece is a lovely reminder of the elaborate dining traditions of the Victorian and Edwardian country house, when even the simplest accompaniments were presented with style and ceremony.
The substantial glass jar features beautifully detailed geometric decoration, with diamond-cut panels, vertical bands and a striking architectural form. It is topped with an impressive faceted glass stopper, adding a wonderful finishing touch.
The silver-plated holder is equally attractive, featuring decorative engraved bands, elegant curved feet and a beautifully sweeping handle. To one side hangs the serving fork, accompanied by a small silver-plated cup, believed to have been designed to catch any drips from the fork after serving.
Originally intended for presenting pickles, preserves and other accompaniments at the dining table, this charming piece would have been both practical and decorative.
Today, it would make a wonderful addition to a traditional dining table, perfect for serving cornichons, pickled onions or other delicious accompaniments to a cold supper, cheese board or charcuterie selection.
A lovely conversation piece that brings the charm and ceremony of historic English dining into the modern home.
