Pair of Victorian Glass Finger Bowls – 19th Century
A charming pair of Victorian clear glass finger bowls, dating from the 19th century. Each bowl features an elegant ribbed and panelled design, catching the light beautifully and giving the glass a wonderful decorative quality.
Finger bowls were an important part of the formal Victorian dining table, traditionally brought to the table towards the end of a meal, often with the dessert service. Filled with cool or tepid water — sometimes scented or accompanied by a slice of lemon or sprig of herbs — they allowed diners to delicately rinse their fingertips.
Today, these lovely bowls are wonderfully versatile. As well as being an attractive addition to a collection of period table glass, they could be used for individual desserts, berries, nuts, olives or after-dinner chocolates.
