Victorian Ornately Cut Crystal Wine Goblet with Engraved Monogram – 19th Century

A magnificent example of Victorian glassmaking, this exceptionally decorative large cut crystal wine goblet is a wonderful testament to the craftsmanship and elegance of the 19th century.

The generously proportioned bowl features an extraordinary combination of intricate diamond cutting, geometric patterns and beautifully engraved detailing. A particularly charming feature is the central shield-shaped cartouche, bearing what appears to be the original owner’s monogram, believed to be the initials WC, adding a wonderful sense of history and individuality to this remarkable piece.

The upper section of the goblet is beautifully finished with finely engraved bands, delicate oval cutting and decorative borders, creating a striking contrast with the deeply cut crystal beneath.

The craftsmanship continues through the wonderfully ornate, faceted stem, which features elaborate cutting and a beautifully sculptural form. The goblet stands upon a substantial circular foot with radiating starburst cutting, catching and reflecting the light from every angle.

Dating to the Victorian period, this is a particularly impressive example of a large formal wine goblet, reflecting an era when fine glassware was an important part of elegant dining and entertaining.

Today, this beautiful piece would make a magnificent addition to a collection of antique glassware, an eye-catching feature on a beautifully laid dining table, or a wonderful decorative object displayed in a cabinet or on a drinks trolley or for everyday use!
