Victorian Silver-Plated on Brass Salver by E. Stacey & Sons, Sheffield – Circa 1880

A magnificent Victorian silver-plated salver, beautifully engraved and raised on wonderfully ornate decorative feet. Dating to the late 19th century, circa 1880, this elegant piece bears the ES&S maker’s mark, attributed to E. Stacey & Sons of Sheffield, together with an electroplating mark.

Crafted from silver plate on brass, this impressive salver showcases the exceptional decorative craftsmanship associated with Victorian Sheffield silverware.

The beautifully engraved surface features an elaborate central cartouche surrounded by intricate scrolling foliage, floral motifs and finely detailed ornamental flourishes. At its centre sits a delicate engraved monogram, a charming reminder of the salver’s original ownership and history.

The shaped, scalloped border is particularly striking, with a richly decorated cast rim featuring scrolling leaves and classical-inspired detailing. The salver stands proudly on ornate feet, giving the piece an elegant raised profile.

During the Victorian period, salvers such as this were an important part of formal entertaining, used for presenting drinks, serving refreshments or displaying fine tableware in fashionable homes.

Today, this wonderful antique would make a beautiful centrepiece for a dining table, drinks trolley or country-house entertaining setting. Perfect for presenting champagne coupes, crystal decanters or a collection of antique glasses.

A superb example of Victorian decorative silver plate, combining craftsmanship, elegance and over 140 years of history.
