Beautiful Victorian Silver-Plated Circular Salver with Pierced Laurel Border – Circa 1880–1900
A beautifully decorative late Victorian silver-plated circular salver, dating to the latter part of the 19th century, featuring an elegant pierced laurel-leaf border, finely engraved decoration and ornate raised feet.
This particularly attractive example has a richly detailed outer rim with repeating foliate motifs, surrounding an openwork band of laurel leaves. The centre is beautifully engraved with concentric decorative borders, delicate scrolling ornament and an elaborate vacant cartouche.
Raised upon decorative cast feet, the salver has a lovely sense of elegance and proportion, reflecting the fashionable silver-plated tableware of the Victorian period.
The underside bears an EPNS mark, denoting electroplated nickel silver, together with the impressed number 12128 and additional indistinct marks.
Salvers were an essential feature of elegant Victorian households, used for presenting drinks, refreshments and other items during entertaining.
Today, this versatile piece would look equally beautiful displaying crystal decanters and glasses, serving champagne coupes, or styled with candles and decorative objects on a coffee table or sideboard.
A wonderful example of Victorian tableware, combining traditional craftsmanship with timeless decorative appeal.
