Victorian Sterling Silver Travelling Perfume Bottle

A beautiful and unusually substantial Victorian sterling silver miniature travelling perfume bottle, richly decorated with an embossed floral design and retaining a wonderful weight and quality in the hand.

The body is covered with beautifully worked flowers and foliage surrounding a central cartouche, which appears to be engraved “Whistlefield”. The bottle is finished with an ornate domed screw or hinged-style cap and carries a series of period silver hallmarks around the lower body.

Made as a luxurious personal accessory, small scent bottles such as this were designed to be carried while travelling or kept in a lady’s dressing case. The quality and weight of the silver make this a particularly lovely example.

Period: Victorian, 19th century
Material: Sterling silver
Decoration: Embossed floral and foliate design with engraved central cartouche
Inscription: Appears to read “Whistlefield”
Condition: Good antique condition with age-related wear. The original internal perfume stopper is missing, which has been reflected in the description.

Weighs: 25g

Measures: 5cm x 2cm

A charming piece of Victorian silver with beautiful decorative detail — equally lovely displayed on a dressing table or added to a collection of antique scent bottles and vanity pieces.
